Accordingly it comes in four different versions as mentioned below:

*Professional edition of Windows 2000: Professional edition is meant to serve all types on businesses needs and individuals. Professional edition is the most economical choice of Windows 2000 editions.

* Windows 2000 Server Edition serves small as well as medium sized business organizations. It could function as a web server or as a branch office server, also known as work group servers.

* Advance Server Edition for Windows 2000: This server functions as network operating system servers as well as Application servers and they have a support system for very large databases.

* Windows 2000 Data Center Server Edition: This edition of Windows 2000 operating system is fit for large databases, processing of on line transactions, econometric analysis and many other applications for which high speed of operation is necessary.

Windows 2000 operating system are less susceptible to crashes as compared to earlier versions of Microsoft's operating systems. It has advance features like Active Directory that enable it to set virtual private networks (VPNs) in an organization and also involve encryption techniques.
